1. The Weather: Meteo IPMA

The IPMA can be compared to the KNMI in the Netherlands; you can set your location and view the daily and weekly weather. Like any weather app, it’s not always accurate, but in my experience, this one is the most reliable.

2. Fires: Fogos

We consulted this app multiple times a day during the summer. It accurately shows where fires are and their extent. You can see how many firefighters, vehicles, and planes are involved in extinguishing the fire.

3. Fast payments: MB way

At first, we were a bit hesitant, but since we started using it: ideal. MB Way is the app for easy and fast payments in Portugal. It allows you to make mobile payments, transfer money, and even shop contactlessly without a bank card.

4. Secondhand: OLX

OLX is the app for buying and selling second-hand items in Portugal. However, second-hand prices in Portugal are quite high. I wrote a separate blog about this.

5. Supermarket: Continente

The Continente app is ideal for those grocery shopping in Portugal. You can find current offers, save discounts with a loyalty card, and even order online for delivery or pickup.

6. Easy translations: Deepl

With DeepL, you can easily translate texts and conversations to and from Portuguese. Our experience is that it is slightly more accurate than Google Translate.

7. Music: Radio Portugal

Radio Portugal is a popular app that lets you stream a wide range of Portuguese radio stations. It’s perfect for staying connected to Portuguese music, news, and culture, offering easy access to live broadcasts anytime, anywhere.

MyCP is a handy app for travelers in Portugal, providing easy access to public transportation information. With real-time data, route planning, and services from the Portuguese railways, we don’t use it much, but it’s useful when you need it!

10. All houses in one place: Idealista

Similar to the Dutch Funda. It’s handy if you’re looking for a house, but we mostly browse out of curiosity. Sometimes we come across a nice house and want to know more. However, the quality of the photos is not what we’re used to in the Netherlands.
