1. Mercado do Bolhão - Porto

This is perhaps one of the most famous local markets in Portugal: Mercado do Bolhão. This beautiful, historic building is located in the heart of Porto and offers a unique market experience. The market spans two floors, due to the significant elevation difference between Rua de Formosa and Rua Fernandes Tomás. Here, you’ll mainly find fresh products such as vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, and herbs, all from local producers. It’s a place where you can truly experience the authentic atmosphere of Porto, both literally and figuratively!

3. Mercado da Ribeira - Lissabon

A visit to this market is a must if you’re spending a day in Lisbon. It’s an indoor market located near Cais do Sodré. While it used to sell fresh vegetables, fruits, and other products, it has now transformed into a food hall. The concept is that many of Lisbon’s top chefs have a small Tascinha (tapas stall) in the market where they serve petiscos—small versions of the signature dishes from their restaurants. You can order your dish and take a seat at one of the large communal tables in the center.

The market is open daily from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
